The Renasant Convention Center is owned by the City of Memphis and is managed by contract with the Memphis Management Group (MMG). MMG is a wholly-owned, not-for-profit subsidiary of the Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau ("MCVB"), now referred to as Memphis Tourism. Memphis Tourism is a non-profit organization formed in 1978 to serve as the destination marketing organization for the City of Memphis and Shelby County. MMG was formed in 2011 to take on the challenge of providing effective venue management services for the venues. The Renasant Convention (RCC), formerly the Cook Convention Center, was built in 1974 as an attachment to Ellis Auditorium and Music Hall. When RCC first opened in 1974, the goal was to provide both direct and indirect civic and economic benefits to the citizens of Memphis. Today, RCC continues to provide those important benefits to the entire Mid-South region. The RCC was renovated in 2003, adding the Cannon Center, the 200-level meeting rooms, and a 2nd-floor ballroom. The RCC recently completed a $200 million renovation to transform the venues with impressive additions and improvements.
